Corporation Court receipts go directly into the general fund and not to the police department. The police department operates on a budget.

Re: Kyle PD opens new home, remains understaffed

The real crime here, Mr. Yaaay, is that you know nothing of which you speak. As Lila Knight has stated, the property was owned by the city. IF you had attended a city council meeting you may have been aware of that. IF you had read the Hays Free Press you would have been aware of that. You also would have been aware of how grossly understaffed our Police Department is and how it is amazing our crime is as LOW as it is...they do what they do to keep us safe with the little they have...it could be much worse. Nothing is perfect...the members of our Police force give their all...your remarks are offensive.

Re: Kyle PD opens new home, remains understaffed

Actually, that building was purchased by the City before 2010 and rented to the county for many years for their offices. I doubt ticket revenues would begin to pay for it. LOL
We do have a great police department, but it is very small at this time and can not be everywhere at every time. I live near where accidents take place on a daily basis, so ticketing people who drive badly is actually an important part of their job to ensure our safety. While your property is important, people's lives are generally considered more so. If people would slow down and drive more carefully, then perhaps the limited number of officers we have could focus their attention on the many, many other things that need to get done.

Re: Yes for bacon

To my knowledge, Benninghoff has never been in a position to make a decision, sound or otherwise, with respect to our municipal government. He may have made sound decisions during his military career. But I am pretty certain that the military takes a different approach to decision-making than municipal government. The circumstances demand it. He may make sound decisions on the kickball field. He may make sound decisions in the emergency room. He may make sound decisions during his participation in civic organizations such as his church. But, sir, these are not the same types of activities as leading a city. And yes, you do have to listen to the citizens. All of them. And if some of them do not come forward, then that is their fault. But do not call the citizens of this town "special interests" as a way of deflecting criticism from your candidate. That is insulting to the people of this town who actively take an interest in their city - as volunteers, and as people who genuinely care what happens to its future.

I stand by my statement that I am voting for the person who took the most active interest in our city. And the one who paid some dues by attending City Council meetings and by participating - and volunteering their precious hours - to making our city a better place.

Re: Kyle PD opens new home, remains understaffed

So that's where all of their ticket money has gone! It seems their focus has been more on giving out citations than actually stopping real crime. There has been numerous break ins lately, but the KPD seems to be intent giving tickets for the smallest of infractions. $250 a pop and voila.... a new HQ! Well let's hope they will now turn their eyes toward the real problems in this city and stop waiting in Hometown Kyle, Plum Creek, Silverado, etc. each morning to give a ticket for going 33 in a 30. Way to go KPD!

Re: Rollover Day, Two 18-wheelers roll over near same intersection on same day

Loop 4 and I35 is a cash cow for wrecking companies. Wonder what the total number of overturned trucks at this intersection is?
Everybody familiar with the intersection knows what the problem is, yet for years now, there have been no barrels, cones, or markers alerting truckers of the black hole on the inside of this turn. The authorities could easily prevent most of the roll overs with a traffic barrel or two, or a very expensive redesign. What does it have to take? A law suit - i.e. they knew and did nothing to address the issue...and truckers keep getting the back wheel of their trailers into that hole and over they go. Is somebody making a little extra on the side on this deal or is it simply a matter of bureaucratic inefficiency "its not my job"; "no, its the state"; "no, truckers shouldn't cut the corner"; "no the county has to have ten rollovers more a month, then something can be done, are hands are tied". Just put a couple of traffic barrels across the grass fellas or fix the hole! come on. And progressives want more and more and more gov't that isn't able to problem solve what they have on their plate now...

Re: Yes for bacon

So, "Joe Bacon gets what democracy is about." Are you
implying that Chad Benninghoff does not? Or, is it simply a matter of your concept of "democracy" differing from that of mine?

Your statement that Chad “will always do what HE thinks is in the best interest of the citizens of Kyle” appears to present this as a negative. Frankly, I consider that a plus. We vote for the candidates that we believe have the best interests of the community in mind and are the best qualified to "hear the people" and consider that input in their decision-making processes. But they are the ones that have to make the final decisions. Honestly, do we want someone in this office whose decisions can possibly be swayed by special interests that do not necessarily reflect what is best for the community as a whole or is so open to the opinions of others and influenced to such an extent that their final decision is really not theirs at all?

I certainly don't and that is why I have cast my vote for Chad Benninghoff, a proven maker of sound decisions and a proven leader in my book.

They move principals around every year and you wreck any established routines, relationships with parents, and ultimately it trickles down to the most important individual, the children. You should have waited for a new Superintendent and you should have allowed parent input.

Re: The principal shuffle, new principals at six Hays CISD elementary schools in fall

I fully agree with Mr. Brooks. Speaking as a 30 year educator, no good can come of this much movement of principals. With no Superintendent in place it is astonishing that these decisions have come about. I don't care what "system" you are using to evaluate the campuses. I don't care how many surveys are done with the parents/staff/man in the moon...this is about education...creating the proper leaning environment...keeping the climate of the building the most productive it can be...to allow students to learn, achieve and grow. I cannot imagine that there is any empirical data available that will show moving six (6) principals, in ANY school district is educationally sound for the students. The whole thing stinks! If the Executive Director, Mr. Tim Persell, felt 6 schools were in need of a change, then this district is in pretty rough shape. Mr. Brooks nailed it with his estimate of "years before this adventurism can be corrected'...remember those "years" are the lives of children...and can never be replaced. Appalling, just appalling!

It represents an instability of ideas at the central office level. Principals set the tone for campuses and when a good principal is removed the chances are that two campuses will suffer. It will be years before this adventurism can be corrected, and it will be interesting to see who will get thrown under the bus by way of taking blame for this ill-fated initiative.

Re: Stage 2 drought in Kyle

I come from a place that gets less than 16" annual rainfall. A
good steward of the land didn’t waste water, the community wouldn’t tolerate it
because one man’s waste effected everybody.
The community’s attitude started to change when the farms and ranches
began to be outnumbered by subdivision and sprawl. Subdivision and development increased
markedly and water tables dropped markedly. It is a fantasy to believe that
development can increase and water resources will increase to keep pace with it.
For more than a decade we have seen
water restrictions imposed and the water table drop. Amazingly we have also seen development after
development realized. Rest assured the
people that are making the money off these developments won’t be living where
there isn’t enough water to go around. You just can’t keep building more
subdivisions on top of a static water supply without running out of water.

For years now during drought and water restrictions I have observed Plum
Creek Sub pouring water on the ground, wasting it, letting it run down their
streets. I saw it yesterday. The water restriction
sign up front getting watered so much the excess flowed across 2770 with enough
volume to raise a spray as cars drove through it. This continues no matter how
serious the drought or restrictive the restrictions are. I resent it.
If the rest of us don’t have enough water, what justifies Plum Creek Sub
wasting it? The consistency of their
extravagant waste suggests they have some kind of a rule requiring residents or
HOA to water so their lawns and landscaping are green. In effect a mandated policy to waste water. Just because somebody has enough money to
purchase water to keep their water hog landscaping pretty doesn’t justify their
wasting the resource we all draw from.
We ALL are going to have to pay for irresponsible water waste.

I would like to see subdivision like Plum Creek seriously revise their
policies regarding water use. I would
like to see subdivision developers make better water use plans. I would like to see regulators enforce the
rules consistently and use their heads in authorizing more development on top
of a vanishing water supply.

Re: Big sisterly love: How becoming a big sister helped one woman overcome her own troubled past

I am so proud of CJ and Sam. He's a guy. Run for Prom King and if you win, so be it. But to take the entire process and make a mockery of it in the name of "gay rights" is absurd. This isn't about the "status quo" but rather another attempt by a small group to hijack established values and tradition for a cause that need not be advanced through such a debate. To try and equate a HS prom king/queen vote with other gay rights issues (like access to health records, civil unions, or other issues) cheapens those other legitimate debates. The kid didn't handle it respectfully by going to the media and working that angle. That was a cheapshot and he (and his agenda) knew it would be one-sided b/c the school district can't/won't comment specifically on it other than to state policy. The news channels also aren't going to be able to find many who will go on record against it b/c they'll be labeled intolerant and hateful by the very people who claim to be "tolerant". See, tolerance on the left only exists when your tolerant of no boundaries and the dissolution of traditions and values that have existed in this country since it's inception. This young man's right to be gay and live the lifestyle he wants will not be enhanced nor diminished based on if he can be a prom queen. However, for the overwhelming majority of kids and parents who agree with the district's position and declaration of who can be queen or king, it has made a bit of mockery of a special night/event and for what....?

Re: Woman survives jump off bridge, collision with bus

I too am surprised this is reported so late.
